Helping teams build capacity & create lasting change.
“An AAC communicator would be able to participate in the purposes of communication, demonstrate the functions of communication, have access to a set of core words and use language flexibly and powerfully.”
— Marlene Cummings, MA, CCC-SLP
Experience Matters
Marlene Cummings is the founder of MRC Communications. As a former school-based SLP & Early Childhood educator, marlene specialized in the design and implementation of classrooms supporting students with complex communication needs. She designed and coordinated an Assistive Technology Center and AT Consultations for a large metropolitan school district.
Marlene continues to consult with teams, designing dynamic service delivery models and thoughtful professional learning opportunities. With a focus on building capacity and moving away from the ‘expert model,’ Marlene helps groups frame their goals and focus their learning needs.
As a member of state, national, and international groups focusing on Augmentative/Alternative communication, Marlene has established herself as a lifelong learner and educator. She also teaches graduate level coursework to speech-language pathology students.
Drawing on years of AAC and emergent literacy experience, Marlene exceeded our expectations and was instrumental in helping to move our professional learning forward as we strive to meet the many diverse communication, language and literacy needs of students with significant disabilities.
